Car Stereo Review MagazineCD TECHNOLOGIES

techniQ&Alities
BY WILLIAM BURTON

Why, it had upfront bass ( UBF )! I was amazed.

This system was amazing not only for its UFB, but because of its design.

I had two car-stereo experiences last fall:

One disappointing, one amazing. First, when judging the sound quality of about 22 vehicles in the Pro 601+ class at the IASCA Finals in Greenville, S.C. last October, I was sorry to note that about 75% of them had base coming audibly from the back. Equally disappointing was the fact that none of the vehicles sounded like big spaces; they had the acoustics of cars, not concert halls.

However I did hear a system with subs in the back and only 6.5" separates in the front...and all of the bass images were well focused upfront.

It was not a typical component system, and it comprised of only two parts:

1) a big box with a two-channel amp, crossovers, and subs that took the signal from an OEM headunit, and

2) the 6.5" separates in the kickpanels. The system, from a company called CD TAUDIO is known as the Platinum. Install time for most Pro systems at the Finals: maybe hundreds of hours each. Install time for the Platinum system: about two hours.
