EF-61CFI/25 Review

One of the reasons im in this business is cause of all the products I get to use. I enjoy testing out speakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers within the same settings to see which appeal to my musical tastes more. One set I have used many times is the cdt audio EF-61CFI/25 6.5" carbon fiber 2 way component set. This set uses a pure carbon fiber coned 6.5" midbass, matched with a 1" silk dome Tweeter and there classic satnet 560 xovers. Inspecting the 6.5" midbass build quality is top notch! The mid uses a durable rubber surround with a stiff yet light carbon fiber cone.

The basket is cast not stamped, and has holes drilled around the frame where the voice coil is for more efficient cooling. The tw-25s 1" silk dome Tweeter included with the set comes with all hardware needed for install and is of very good build quality as well. The satnet 560 xovers are extremely solid in build. Shaking the xover in my hand u hear nothing rattle and the terminals are heavy duty gold set screw type that can accept up to 12 ga wire. Of course this is all expected with the cdt xovers cause after all in my opinion they are the passive xover kings!
After install was complete running the set using a us amps 1000x ( my pride and joy hehehe) rated at a massive 250x2rms @ 4 ohms and for the source an alpine 9815, I couldn’t wait to begin . Instead of using a test disc I opted to use everyday music. Song of choice was Noel - Silent Morning, an old school favorite freestyle track of mine (Boy im getting old). In the start of the track a distinct instrument/synth is used. Right off the bat u can hear how spacial these speakers project there sound and do so cleanly. Right after the bass line of the track and rhythm take affect. I could hear the warmth and depth the midbass drivers have. The bass response is very solid for a 6.5" driver and they give a sound you can feel. The Tweeter is beautifully smooth and detailed and at any volume was never harsh.
Considering this set was mounted in the stock locations I couldn’t believe how well the sound stage was. With little tunning I was able to get the music almost perfectly dead center. Many sets in stock locations need lots of tunning but this set needs very little. Actually with no tunning they impressed me! These speakers are an excellent value one of the best I have heard in this price range. They had solid midbass, great sound quality, and the Tweeter is nice and smooth. For power the amp I used was a little overkill. I recommend running the set using a quality amp rated at 100-175x2rms for best results with doors well sound deadened. Now only if cdt made this set in a 3 way model !
