ES-12SQ Audiophile Subwoofer Review

I would like to start by saying thank you to all the guys at cdt for making me the luckiest person to receive the ES-12sq 12" euro sport subwoofer, ahead of their release schedule. (Now on to the good stuff!!) Upon arrival, I was so excited to see the finished product and as soon as the package came, I rushed to open it. As always the es-12sq, like the rest of their subs come in a signature white gift box. When I first saw the beautiful carbon fiber cone still in the plastic, my jaw dropped. The sub is so awesome to look at from the machined polished lip of the frame, down to the woven leads, and of course the eye catching carbon fiber cone.

Looking at the spec sheet, the driver calls for a 1.2 cubic foot sealed enclosure. I built the box to 1.35 to play it safe, and to take into account displacement. My only complaint is that the driver spec sheet does not include this spec, so I was left to guess. After wiring the subs dual 4 ohm coils at a 2 ohm mono load the amp of choice was a us amps DE-1000 rated at
1000x1 @ 2 ohms at 12 volts. For testing I used euphoric midnight bass courtesy of Grand Masta on sounddomain.com (great 4 disc cd set). First thing upon listening I noticed is the quick response the driver has. No matter if the bass is low in frequency or in the higher frequencies the es12sq is always on the money. Low end extension is very impressive for this sub being in a small 1.2 cubic foot enclosure. This driver proves to be a great sq oriented driver but what about the output? I can and will say its not the loudest sub out there, after all it was designed to be an awesome sq driver and that it is but it is no weak woofer. The output was not to far off from the version 1 HD-1220. Though the HD-12 has more travel the ES-12sq driver possess a higher BL and the surround is more narrow taking up less cone area and as a result gives this driver good output capabilities.
Overall I was truly impressed of the sound of this driver and the output was very pleasing for an all out sq woofer. If your game is pure sound quality with decent output these drivers are a solid choice.
